​​About Trinity...

We are a member church of the United Church of Christ.  This relatively young denomination was officially formed in June of 1957 as a merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches, but our roots date far back in history - back through the Reformation of the 16th century to the time and person of Jesus Christ.


We are Christian because we follow Jesus Christ.

We are Reformed because we acknowledge the need to constantly re-form the church in response to Jesus' call to discipleship.

We are Congregational because the basic unit of the United Church of Christ is the congregation.  Each congregation has the right and the responsibility to carry on its own ministry.  And yet, we know that we are bound together to carry on the mission and ministry of Jesus.

We are Evangelical because our primary task is to proclaim the good news of God's love in Jesus Christ through our words and through our deeds.


WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?

We believe that we are a united and a uniting church that takes seriously Jesus words; That they may all be one.  (John 17:21)


We believe that in essentials unity, in non-eseentials diversity, in all things charity.

We believe that no one formula can be used as a test of faith, though we do recognize a number of testimonies of faith.

We believe in the primacy of the Bible and acknowledge that it offers us new insights and help for living today.

We believe that all our members are ministers with their own unique gifts to contribute to our churches ministry.

We believe that each member is free to act in accordance with his or her perception of God's will for their life.  But, we also firmly believe that we are bound together in a loving relationship with each other.

Mr. Dickerson graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studes - Latin America.  As well as being the Director of Christian Education at Trinity UCC, Mr. Dickerson is also a Spanish Teacher at St. Stephen's Lutheran and a ESL Instructor at Catawba Valley Community College.

Ms. Sonya Starnes

Ms. Starnes graduated from Catawba Valley Community College in 2009 with an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education.  


She works as the Lead Teacher at I-CARE, Inc. Head Start in Statesville, NC.  She was a former teacher at Rainbow Child Care in Troy, Michigan and a former teacher at Apple Tree Academies.

Mr. Marty Light

Organist

Ms. Lowe graduated from Lenior-Rhyne University with a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Vocal Performance in 2011.  She was involved in A Cappella Choir, College Singers, LR Playmakers, Alpha Lambda Delta, Kappa Delta Pi, Studio Voice, and took several communication classes.  


In addition to being the Choral Director at Trinity UCC, Ms. Lowe is also the Choral Director at Hibriten High School.  She has worked here since July 2011.

Mrs. McCarter graduated from Western Piedmont Community College in 2004 with an Associate's Degree in Computer Science.  She has previous work experience in a church setting and many talents with graphic design.


She always has a pleasant attitude and is quick to respond to questions.

MEET OUR STAFF

Rev. Stout graduated from Campbell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Sociology. She is also a graduate of the Southeastern Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity with Religious Education.  Rev. Stout was an Associate Minister at Stuart Congregational UCC in Stuart, Florida from July 2000 - September 2004. She served as the Associate Pastor at Trinity UCC from March 2005, until she was installed as the Senior Pastor in September 2014.

Mr. Light is a graduate of Georgia Tech (Bachelors of Ceramic Engineering) and Duke University (Masters of Business Administration) and has been a church musician for over 45 years.  He is employed by Corning Optical Communications as the Global Commercial Planning manager.  Marty lives in Newton with his wife Kellie and their children.

Mr. Mark Dickerson 

Director of Christian Education 

Mrs. Higgins graduated from Michigan State University in 1992 with a degree in Strategic Planning.  She also graduated from Stanford University in 1986 with a degree in Financial Analytics in Manufacturing.  In addition, she has a Labor Econ degree from Catawba College.  


In addition to being the Children's School Director, Mrs. Higgins has been the President of ING Source Inc. since January 2007.
